There's a Washburn photo from the south on page 46 of the 1955 AAJ that accompanies an article about Mount Deborah. You might be able to find it online.

Also, there's a photo from the south in the 1984 AAJ.

I created an index of sorts of all the peaks in Alaska that are mentioned in the climbing journals (well at least all of the journals that were available to me). A quick search for Mount Hayes let me know that there were a few entries. I have pdfs of most of the AAJs, so I then took a look at the specific page numbers of the entries that I had listed containing photographs. There were surprisingly few. I didn't bother going searching earlier than 1955, but if you're interested check out the 1938 AAJ (pages 126 and 196), the 1942 AAJ (pages 323, 335, 470, and 473), the 1952 AAJ (page 240). I didn't bother checking the orientation of each of the photos in these AAJs, so I'm not guaranteeing that the south buttress is depicted in any of them.

That and I'd also like to climb Mount Hayes someday.

sad thing. I actually climbed this route and can't remember what it looked like. Must of ate out of too many aluminum pots. My partner who now is a professional photographer doesn't even have pictures. I remember it as al long snow slope and was thiking could be a good ski line.
